Perennial herbs. The root is stout; the root neck is covered with brown fibrous dead petioles. The leaves are mostly imbricate, radial, linear lanceolate, 3-12 cm long, 3-10 mm wide, base widened, red purple. The inflorescences are mostly clustered, 0.7-1 cm in diameter, without pedicel; the involucre is cylindrical, the involucre is usually purple, 5-Row, ciliate, oblong outside, linear inside; the flowers are all tubular, bisexual, purple; the anthers are blue gray, with tail at the base, and woolly on the tail. Achene smooth. Corolla pale brown, pinnate. The flowering and fruiting period is from July to September.
It is found in alpine meadow and wet hillside. Distributed in Qinghai, Tibet, Gansu, Sichuan and other places.
