The shell is hard and thick, with a height of 4-10 cm. The top of the shell is sharp and thin, with about six layers of spirochetes. The sutures and growth lines are obvious, and the spirochetes are very large. On the spiral layer of the body, the tubercle is triangular, especially prominent. There are 3-4 thick ribs with tuberous processes below the shoulder angle of the spiral layer, especially the one at the base, which is located outside the base of the inner lip of the shell mouth and is formed by closely connected scaly folds. The shell is yellowish brown with brown spots. The mouth of the shell is large, the anterior sulcus is short and wide, the outer lip is thick, and the edge has the same notch as the spiral rib. The posterior part of the inner lip is thin and adheres to the spiral layer of the body. The inner surface of the shell mouth is apricot red with luster, and the inner surface of the outer lip has ribs equivalent to the thin ribs of the shell surface. The cuticle is thick and firm, brown and oval, the nucleus is located at the edge of the outer lip, and the growth line is obvious. There is a mouth on the ventral surface of the front end of the head, a pair of antennae at the end of the head, and a small black eye on the outside near the base. The foot is wide, grayish black, with strong flexibility. When stimulated, it immediately retracts into the shell.
It lives among the rocks on the shallow sea floor. It is distributed in the South and north coasts of China.
