[plant morphology] Myrtle
It is an annual herb with a height of 10-25 cm. There are many fibrous roots. Stems erect or scattered, green purple, many branched, long branches creeping, nodes with adventitious roots. The leaf blade is oblong lanceolate, 1-3cm long, 0.5-1cm wide, apex acuminate or obtuse, margin with sparse obtuse teeth, upper green purple, lower pale. The results show that the flower is in a sparse raceme; the bracts are linear lanceolate at the base of pedicel; the calyx is bell shaped, 5-lobed at the apex, and the lobes are narrow and green; the Corolla is lip shaped, 5-lobed, and lavender; the stamens are 4, 2 fertile but not prominent, the anthers are close to each other, and 2 degenerate; the ovary is superior, and the style is single. Capsule linear lanceolate, 1-1.5 cm long, with persistent calyx. Seeds small, numerous. The flowering period is autumn and winter.
It grows at the edge of rice field or at low humidity. It is distributed all over the south of the Yangtze River.
