Small evergreen shrubs, 1-3 m high. Young branches angulate, pubescent. Single leaf alternate, linear oblong or narrowly lanceolate, 8-20 cm long, 12-25 mm wide, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, entire, glabrous or sparsely pilose above, slightly pilose below on veins, with dense midvein, densely scaly between veins; petiole 5-11 mm long, pubescent. Flowers small, dioecious, apetalous, spikes axillary, 5-10 cm long. Male sepals 3, oblong or obovate, stamens extremely numerous, filaments branched; female sepals 5, ovate lanceolate, pubescent outside; ovary subglobose, densely covered with close gray pubescence, 3-locular, 1 ovule per locule; style 3, undivided, tomentose inside. Capsule almond shaped, densely brown pilose. Seeds subovate. The flowering period is from January to May.
It grows in the sand beside the river, in the crevices by the stream or in the thickets on the hillside. It is distributed in Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Taiwan.
