[plant morphology] Sargassum
The algae are dark green, spongy, juicy and 10-30 cm long. The fixator is discoid or crusty, branching upward from the base, with more upward branches. Branches obtuse, 1.5-5 mm in diam. The whole algal body is composed of many branched, tubular and undivided multinucleated monocytes. The medulla is a mixture of colorless filaments, branching from the medulla and expanding into rod-shaped cells, forming a continuous outer palisade layer. The chloroplast is small, discoid and without starch nucleus. The length of the rod-shaped cell is 4-7 times of the diameter, the apical wall is thick, and there are often hairy processes.
It grows on the rocks or bogs in the middle and low tide zone and often forms large communities. It is widely distributed along the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea in China.
