[source] the leaves of Hibiscus mutabilis, a Malvaceae plant, are described in the section "Hibiscus mutabilis flower".

[collection] in summer and autumn, the leaves were cut and dried. Keep in dry and ventilated place.

[medicinal material] dry leaf, petiole, about 0.3 cm thick, yellowish brown; leaf large, often folded, leaf surface gray green, leaf back light green, veins raised, branches gray stellate hair.

[clinical application] ① treatment of local suppurative infection

Take Hibiscus leaves and flowers to dry, grind powder and sift, add vaseline to make 1:4 ointment, apply it to the affected area (apply it around if it has broken); it can also be made into gauze for wound drainage. Change the dressing once a day or every other day. In the treatment of furuncle, carbuncle, cellulitis, mastitis, deep abscess and other surgical infections, it can reduce swelling, relieve pain and promote absorption in the early stage, and accelerate the limitation in the middle and late stage, breaking ulceration and discharging pus. No poisoning, local dermatitis or other complications were found during the application.

② Treating burns

Use 1 jin of Hibiscus leaves (double fresh leaves), add 2 jin of Vaseline, simmer until the leaves are withered and scorched, filter and remove the residue, spread it on the disinfectant dressing, or make Hibiscus leaf ointment gauze for external application, change the dressing once a day. 133 cases were treated. The minimum scald area was 1%, the maximum was 30%, most of them were Ⅰ - Ⅱ degree. In addition to a small number of patients due to infection and other reasons with other Chinese herbal medicine and antibiotics treatment, are only external application. The shortest treatment time was 3 days and the longest was 68 days. Furong ointment has astringent effect on scald, can promote the absorption of wound exudate, reduce secretion; after treatment, local cool and comfortable, can quickly relieve pain. The wound healed with few scars and no side effects.

③ Treatment of mumps

Take Hibiscus leaves to dry and crush, pass through 80 sieve, mix the fine powder with egg white, apply it on the oil paper, stick it on the affected area, and cover it with gauze. Change the dressing twice a day until the swelling subsides. After treatment, the body temperature of 16 cases dropped to normal in 2-3 days on average, and the swelling subsided in 4-6 days; 3 cases complicated with orchitis were cured in 10 days on average.
