[plant morphology] Polygonum viviparum
Annual herbs. Fibrous roots are numerous. When the seedlings lie flat on the ground, or recline, after pulling stem upright, 20-50 cm long. The stem is angular, multi branched, with square branches. In autumn, the stems and leaves turn purplish red, all smooth and glabrous. Leaf blade lanceolate, 4-7.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, apex acuminate, entire, base narrower, petiole less than half of leaf. Flowers axillary, usually 1-2, sessile; calyx 4-5-lobed, lobes ovate, ca. 2 mm long, outside hairy, persistent; petals as many as calyx lobes, elliptic, ca. 3 mm long, apex obtuse, base narrow, claw like, caducous; stamens 4-5; ovary inferior, outer surface densely hairy, 4-locular, style short, stigma single, capitate. Capsule linear square, erect or slightly curved, both ends cut, 15-20 mm long, mature into purple; seeds small, smooth, brown yellow. The flowering period is from July to August. The fruit period is from September to October.
It grows near the water. Distributed in Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan and other places.
