[plant morphology] fetida
Semi evergreen shrub, 2-3m high. Branchlets light brown, white pilose, odorous, winter buds scaly. Single leaf opposite, clustered on short branches, obovate lanceolate, 4-8 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, apex pointed or acuminate. Base cuneate. A few entire or above the middle, with large and round serrate, smooth above, sparsely pilose below, more along the vein, three veins at the base, 1-2 lateral veins on each side, with tufted hairs in the vein axils; petiole about 5-12 mm long, pilose. Corymbose cymes on top of lateral branches, pilose; flowers small, white, broad campanulate, apex 5-lobed, lobes rounded; stamens 5, filaments slender, slightly exposed outside corolla; ovary inferior. Berry shaped drupe, broadly elliptic, red at maturity. Seed 1, compressed, with longitudinal groove. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from July to November.
Born in the mountains and forests or roadsides. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei and other places.

Functions and indications: clearing away heat and toxin, relieving cough and bone grafting. Fruit treatment headache, cough, pneumonia, traumatic injury, Zouma chancre, urticaria.
