[plant morphology] evergreen shrubs or small trees, up to 10m high, with smooth branches. The leaf blade is leathery, long elliptic, long obovate, obovate elliptic, 8-22cm long, 2.5-6.5cm wide, wedge-shaped or round at the base, sparsely glandular serrulate at the edge, entire near the base, villous from midrib to petiole when young, glabrous on both sides, glabrous on both sides; petiole 2-4cm long. The flowers are white, 6-8 mm in diameter; the petals are nearly round, the inner surface near the base is glabrous; the top of ovary is hairy, and the style is 2-3-lobed. The pear is nearly spherical, about 5mm in diameter, red, and then purple brown. The flowering period is April to May and the fruiting period is October.
Wild or cultivated. It is distributed in Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Gansu.

[character] the upper surface of the leaf is dark green to brownish purple, smooth, and the lower surface is light green to brownish purple. The main veins are protruding, and the lateral veins are arranged like feathers, often with petioles. Leather and crisp. The taste is bitter and astringent.
[chemical constituents] it contains hydrocyanic acid, prunasin, ursolic acid, saponin and volatile oil.
It is mild in nature, pungent and bitter in taste, and has little poison.
Function indications: dispelling wind and tonifying kidney. It can be used for rheumatic muscle and bone pain, impotence and spermatorrhea.
