[plant morphology] capsaicin, also known as Capsicum tenuifolium.
Perennial herbs. The root is cylindrical, slightly twisted, yellowish white, with longitudinal lines and black round protuberances. Stem erect, purplish red. Leaves alternate, 2 or 3 turns, 3 pinnate compound leaves, occasionally 5; total petiole 2-16 mm long; leaflets obovate to oblong, 3-5 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, apex rounded or slightly concave, base broadly cuneate, entire, papery, glandular punctate, petiole short. Cyme, small flowers, white yellow; calyx 4-lobed, suborbicular, connate below the middle; petals 4-ovoid, about 2 mm long, membranous, with glandular spots; stamens 6-8, alternate in length, filaments separated, attached to the perianth of the fleshy annular disk; ovary sessile, style short, single 1, base separated into 4, stigma capitate. The fruit is composed of four capsule like petals. The fruit is sessile or shortly stipitate at maturity. The flowering period is April.
It grows on the edge of mountains and forests. It is distributed in Yunnan and southwest Sichuan.
