[plant morphology] Mosla

Perennial herbs. Stem about 1 m high, with white milk, glabrous or rare protuberant like hairs. Leaves alternate; leaves ovate to oblong ovate, 5-20 cm long, 3-8 cm wide, apex acute, margin sharply serrate, base nearly truncate to heart-shaped, petiolate; upper leaves small, sessile. Inflorescence: panicle raceme; branches rather long, pedicels short; bracts small; flowers drooping; calyx 5-lobed, lobes green, lanceolate, sharp, 5-8 mm long; corolla top expanded into bell shaped, light blue purple, 2-3 cm long; apex 5-lobed, lobes sharp, drooping; stamen 5, lower part of filaments lanceolate, upper part gradually narrow; pistil 1, style slightly shorter than corolla, upper part expanded Stigma 3-lobed, ovary inferior. Capsule rounded; contains many seeds. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruiting period is October.

[clinical application] treating furuncle and carbuncle

Wash and shred the fresh shepherd's purse root, add 10% vegetable oil to paste, then mix in 30% Vaseline, apply it to the local area, about 0.5cm thick, and fix it with bandage or adhesive tape. Change the dressing once a day until the symptoms disappear. In the early stage of acute and chronic suppurative inflammation, 9 cases (2 cases of furuncle and carbuncle, 5 cases of abscess) were treated. Except for one case with severe systemic symptoms, which was treated with penicillin injection and oral administration of Chinese medicine, the rest cases were treated with external application of shepherd's purse only.
