Herbs perennial, about 1.5-2.5 m tall, all covered with short hairs and sharp spiny stings. Usually tufted, stems ribbed. Leaves alternate; leaf outline pentagonal, length and width (0-25 cm), base shallowly cordate or nearly truncated, palmately 3-lobed, 1-lobed with a few triangular lobes, margin with coarse teeth, sparsely scabrous on the top, pubescent on the bottom, 3 basal veins; petiole 4-15 cm long; stipules connate, broadly ovate. Usually dioecious; male inflorescence 12 cm long, male flowers dense, perianth segments 4, stamens 4; female inflorescence 18 cm long, with a few branches; female flowers dense, perianth segments 2, unequal in size; stigma filiform. Achenes broadly ovate, flat, smooth.
It grows in damp places near the forest in the valley. Distributed in Yunnan, Guizhou, Hubei, Sichuan and other places.
