Inflorescence racemose or umbelliform, composed of 3-7 flowers, monoecious; flower diameter 1.5-2 cm, white, light red or green lotus halo; male flower outer ring 3 sepals broad lanceolate, about 13 mm long, turning inward 3 sepals linear, slightly longer, stamen 6; female flower is slightly larger than male flower, inner ring 3 lanceolate sepals shorter than outer ring, staminode 6, mature carpel ovoid, purple. Berry, ovoid, 6-7 cm long, white flesh, containing black seeds, most. The flowering period is May.
Born in the wild or cultivated in the garden. Produced in Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[chemical constituents] the stems and leaves contain saponins, phenols and amino acids. Three triterpenoid saponins were isolated from seeds: aesculoside a, aesculoside B and aesculoside C. The content of dry seeds was 28.7%.
[pharmacological action] the fruit and nucleolus have anthelmintic effect on Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris, but the effect on hookworm is uncertain. The action is not destroyed by heat. But the effect of over mature fruit is very weak.

One Decoction: 1 liang of Caulis Bidentatae, add water to fry it into 30 ml, take it when it is painful, and take it three times a day if necessary. A total of 113 cases of postoperative pain, leprosy reactive pain and other pain were observed. Generally, they began to relieve pain 15 minutes after taking medicine, and the effect lasted for 4 hours. Two pills: each pill is equivalent to one or two raw medicines, 2-3 times a day, 1-2 pills each time. More than 40 cases of traumatic pain, visceral pain, postoperative pain, neuralgia and headache were treated with sedative effect, of which 73% were markedly effective. Three tablets: 2.5G each. Take 4-6 tablets in case of pain. It is used in more than 40 cases of postoperative pain. Generally, it begins to relieve pain about 30 minutes after taking the medicine, and the effect lasts for 3 hours. Four injections: 2 ml intramuscular injection each time (equivalent to 5 g crude drug). The analgesic effect and duration were basically the same as the decoction.
It was also reported that the injection made from Aesculus Aesculus, 2 ml each time (equivalent to 3 g of dried leaves), also had analgesic effect. According to the observation of 12 cases, the general effect was 5-15 minutes after injection, and the analgesic effect lasted for 4-10 hours.
