[plant morphology] fennel
Annual plants, 30-60 cm high, with white powder. The root is straight and cylindrical. Basal leaves numerous, 6-20 cm long, with slightly long petiole; leaf blade outline rectangular round, 2 pinnately divided; 1 lobe 3-6 pairs, with short petiole or sessile, ovate outline; 2 pinnately cleft, lobules lanceolate or narrowly obovate, 0.3-1.6 mm wide. Inflorescence with few or many branches; sepals 2, narrowly ovate; petals 4, lavender or white, outer 2 larger, broadly obovate, entire, inner 2 smaller, 3-lobed, central lobe boat shaped; stamens 4, opposite petals, base with glands; ovary 1-locular. Capsule strip-shaped, divided into 10 nodes between each 2 seeds at maturity.
It grows on sandy soil and grassland. Distributed in Tibet, Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Hebei and other places.
[collection] harvest from June to August, wash, cut off and dry.
[chemical constituents] the alkaloid content of the whole herb is about 0.38%. Among them, 85% protoopioid alkaloids, 0.1% sanguinarine, 7.8% amorphous non phenolic alkaloids and 2.7% amorphous phenolic alkaloids were isolated.
