Shrub, 1-2m high. Branchlets semipendulous, grayish brown, silky villous when young, slightly pubescent or glabrous when old; buds ovate, filiform, 2-5 mm long; leaves linear or narrowly linear lanceolate, 1-5 cm long, 2-4 mm wide, nearly entire, involute, or margin sparsely denticulate, silky pubescent on both sides at first, then nearly glabrous; petioles 3-5 mm long, glabrous or filiform pubescent . The catkin is 1-15 cm long, nearly without pedicel; the inflorescence axis is sparsely pilose; the bracts are elliptic or lanceolate, glabrous on both sides; there is a gland on the ventral side; the male flower has two stamens, and the filaments are all united; the female ovary is glabrous and sessile. Capsule, ca. 4 mm, glabrous. The flowering period is June. The fruit period is from June to July.
It grows on the river bank, fixed sand dune and light salinized sandy land in desert area. Distributed in Liaoning, Jilin, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other places.
