[plant morphology] Sagittaria japonica
Small herbs annual or biennial. Stem tufted, 2.6-15 cm high. The leaves are opposite, linear, 0.5-0.9 cm in length, and connected with a membrane at the base to form a short sheath. Flowers terminal and axillary, white and small, about 2 mm in diameter; calyx 5, ovate, 2-3 mm in length, 1 mm in width, green, margin membranous, glabrous, separated directly to the base; petals alternate with sepals in the same number, ovate, 2.5 mm in length, 1 mm in width; stamens 5; ovary superior, ovate, style 5, spreading into a star, stigma with hairy processes. Capsule ovate, ca. 3 mm long, 5-valved at maturity. The seed is minute, many, testa is brown, have protuberance on. The flowering period is between spring and summer.
Born in the mountains, gardens, roadsides and other wet places. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Sichuan, Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Yunnan and other places.
