[plant morphology] pollen Typhae
Large trees, up to 20 meters high. The stem has a tight ring pattern. The leaves are large, broad, kidney shaped, fan-shaped, with a diameter of more than 1 m. The lobes are mostly 2-lobed, lanceolate, with drooping apex. The petioles are long, flat and convex, with 2 rows of reverse spines at the lower part. Panicle long, scattered and widely divergent, in leaf axils; spathe brown, tubular, leathery, 2-lobed; flowers small, pale green, sessile, ca. 2 mm long; calyx and corolla split almost to base; stamens 6, filaments united into a ring; ovary superior, 3-carpel. Drupe elliptic or oblong, olive shaped, about 1.8 cm long, black when ripe. The flowering period is spring and summer.
Planted in the garden or near the house. It is distributed in the south of China.
