[plant morphology] Zingiber officinale, also known as Piper nigrum, Chimonanthus praecox, Syzygium sibiricum and Zingiber officinale.
Deciduous small trees, 3-7 m high. The flower branch is slender. The leaves are papery, lanceolate or oblanceolate, 5-10 cm long, with silky pubescence at the beginning and smooth at the end; the petioles are hairy. Flowers unisexual, dioecious; umbel, composed of 8-12 flowers, with short stalks; flowers opening before leaves; surface of involucre hairy, early falling; flowers yellow, pedicel small, 1-1.5 cm long, with silky hirsute; perianth 6, obovate; anthers 4-locular, lobed, fully introverted, filaments only at base with fine hairs; female flowers larger, with coarse hairs. Drupe globose, bluish black, ca. 7-10 mm in diameter; upper part of pedicel slightly enlarged. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from August to September.
It grows on the side of stream, slope or edge of mixed forest. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan, Henan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi and other places.
