[plant morphology] tofu wood, also known as manshanxiang, xiaotuichi, zhishimu, zaohecai, heimaolie, chouchangshan, tiehoopsan, chouliandan, hufushu, zhuifengsan, liangfenye, zaoheshuzi, liuliuyueleng, tofu wood, guanyinchai, paste mixi, Choucha, loumachai, tuchangshan, xiaoqingshu.
Deciduous shrub, 2-6m high. Tender shoots have multicellular pubescence. Leaves opposite, ovoid or oblong, 2.5-7 cm long and 1.5-3 cm wide, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate, upper part of leaf margin sparsely serrated, both sides of leaves pubescent; main veins raised, lateral veins 5-7 pairs; petiole about 7-12 mm long, pubescent. Panicles terminal or subterminal axillary. Bracteoles 1, acicular, 2-3 mm long; flowers small, calyx cup-shaped, with shallow 5 teeth, teeth margin short hairy; corolla pale yellow, funnel-shaped, 2-lipped, 4-lobed; stamens 4, 2-strong, shorter than corolla, filaments with short hairs at lower part, anthers 2-locular, base separated; pistil 1, stigma 2-lobed, ovary superior. Drupe rounded, ca. 6 mm in diam., red, with persistent calyx. The flowering period is from May to June. The fruit period is from June to July.
It grows in mountain and roadside. It is distributed in Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi and other places.

[clinical application] treating burn
