Evergreen trees or shrubs, often variable in shape. The buds and young branches were covered with grayish brown pubescence. Leaves simple, alternate, leathery or papery; lanceolate. Elliptic or obovate, about 20 cm long and 6 cm wide, apex acute or acuminate, base cuneate or broadly cuneate, margin serrate, upper smooth, green, lower light green, middle rib protruding, upper sparsely white hair; petiole about 1.5 cm long. Spikes, axillary, glabrous or short hairy, 2-6 times longer than petiole; bracts and bracteoles with glandular points on the edge, bracteoles with coarse hairs; calyx about 2 mm long, glabrous, 5-lobed, lobes imbricate; corolla white, lobes about 4 mm long; stamens numerous; longer than corolla, filaments base combined to form inconspicuous five body stamens; ovary inferior, apex glabrous. Drupe globose, 4-6 mm in diam., apex constricted, persistent calyx lobes erect. The flowering period is from April to May.
Born in the wild. It is distributed in Zhejiang, Sichuan, Fujian and Guangdong.
