[plant morphology] Brahma
Erect subshrub, branched, about 1 m high, branches densely stellate pubescent. The leaves are alternate, 2-7 cm long and 1-6 cm wide, usually 3-5-lobed, with lobes below the middle, obovate or rhombic in shape, one lobe at the top contracted and narrowed at the base, and small serrate at the edge. Flowers axillary, solitary or slightly clustered; epicalyx 5-lobed, lobes triangular; calyx 5-lobed, both covered with stellate hairs; petals 5-lobed. The stamens are connate, the filaments are tubular, the anthers are purplish red; the pistil is 1, the style apex is 10 lobed, red. Capsule oblate, ca. 1 cm in diam., mericarps 5, with hooked bristles. The flowering period is from summer to winter.
Born in the mountains, roadsides, slopes or shrubs. Distributed in Zhejiang, Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and other places.

[medicinal material] the dried whole plant is 20-50 cm long, the stem is about 3-7 mm thick, cylindrical, brown, and the young branches are dark green to grayish green; it is hard, fibrous, with white wood and pith in the center. Leaves usually 3-5-lobed, lobes obovate or rhombic, grayish brown to dark green, hairy; young leaves ovate. Capsule axillary, oblate, epicalyx persistent, pilose and barbous, pericarp dry, thick membranous.
Produced in Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan and other places.
