[plant morphology] Moschus tomentosa
Annual herbs. Stem erect, stout, 30-60 cm high, covered with mucinous sparse hairs. Leaves opposite, with short stalks, ovate, 1.5-5 cm long, apex obtuse, base rounded or broad wedge-shaped, margin obtuse serrate, both sides fluffy. Flowers purple blue, solitary in upper leaf axils or top, forming an open raceme; petiole short, usually with 2 bracteoles; sepals 5, upper 4 linear, bottom 1 lanceolate, larger, flowering time about 8 mm, fruiting time about 12 mm; corolla 2-2.5 cm long, upper lip erect, entire or concave, lower lip extended, 3-lobed; stamens 4, enclosed, anther chamber separated, upper 1 pair Anther locules are small and glandular in the following pair of anthers; style apex is enlarged and wing shaped below stigma. Capsule oblong conic, ca. 8 mm long. The flowering period is July.
Born in the mountains and grass. It is distributed in the south of China.

The length of the dried whole herb is 20-30 cm. The roots remain. The stem is about 2-4 mm thick, branched, dark brown in appearance, with shallow longitudinal wrinkle, long and sparse hair, hard and easy to break, hollow, slightly fibrous. Leaves extremely shrunken, dark brown above, light brown below, pilose, densely with concave glandular dots. The flowers are mostly fruiting, the calyx is persistent, tea brown, 5-lobed, and one of the lobes grows significantly. Capsule dark brown to yellowish brown. The aroma is strong, and the taste is slightly spicy and cool. Aromatic and impurity free is preferred.
