[plant morphology] Setaria plicata
Herbs perennial, up to 1 m tall. Culm erect, base sometimes dilated. Leaves elliptic to oblong, strongly folded, 7-25 cm long and 1.2-3 cm wide, both ends acuminate, veins on both sides papillate, sparsely hairy or bald; leaf sheaths glabrous, sheath mouth pilose. Panicles spiriform, scattered, up to 30 cm or more long, green; branches raised, scattered, 1-7 cm long; spikelets elliptic, about 3 mm long, short pointed, closely arranged in short leaves The first glume is suborbicular, about 1 mm long, apex cuneiform, 3-veined; the second glume is elliptic, about 2 mm long, 5-veined; sterile floret is neutral; lemma is elliptic, about 3 mm long, 5-veined; palea is narrow, lanceolate, transparent; lemma of fruiting floret is about 2.5 mm long , rugose, margin narrower involute, enclosing palea. The flowering and fruiting periods are summer and autumn.
