[plant morphology] Betula luminifera, also known as Betula luminifera and lac tree.
Trees, up to 25 m high. The bark is light yellowish brown, dark yellowish gray or reddish brown when it is old, smooth and unbroken, with clear aroma. Leaves ovate to oblong, 5-12 cm long, apex long pointed, base round, tree shaped or truncated, margin compound serrate, apex long pointed, glabrous on the top, sparsely hairy on the bottom, lateral veins 12-14 pairs; petiole 1-2 cm long, densely pubescent and glandular dots. Inflorescence solitary, oblong columnar, pendulous, 3-9 cm long, 6-10 mm in diameter; inflorescence stalk 1-2 cm long; bract 2-3 mm long, middle lobe oblong to lanceolate, lateral lobes ovate, sometimes undeveloped; samara obovate, 2 mm long, membranous wing 2-3 times wider than fruit.
It grows in sunny hillside and mixed forest. It is distributed in Hubei, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and southern Zhejiang.
