[plant morphology] pineapple
Annual weak twining herbs, bald and glabrous, up to 4 meters long. The outline of the leaf is ovate, 4-7 cm long, pinnately divided into many linear discrete lobes; there are two stipules in the same shape as the leaf. Cymes axillary, with several flowers, usually longer than leaves; flowers erect; sepals 5, green, elliptic, ca. 5 mm long, apex obtuse and cuspidate; corolla dark red (also white varieties), high pedunculate discoid, 2.5 cm or more long, tube weak, upper part slightly inflated, short 5-lobed; stamens 5; ovary 4-locular, stigma capitate. Capsule, ovate, 7-8 mm long. The flowering period is from spring to autumn.
It is cultivated in many places.
