Perennial herbs, 20-40 cm high. The stolon is transverse, with fine fibrous roots on the nodes. Stem tetragonal, reddish. The leaves are simple, opposite, ovate to ovate oblong, 3-8 cm long and 1.5-4 cm wide, apex acuminate, base cuneate, margin coarsely serrate; petiole 0.5-1.5 cm long. Cymes; bracts leaflike: calyx funnel-shaped, teeth 5; corolla lip shaped, purple blue, upper lip small, apex concave, lower lip extended, 3-lobed. Nutlets obovate triangular. It blooms in summer.
It grows on the hillside, grass and the edge of the field. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet.

Bitter, cold.
Functions and indications: clearing away heat and toxin, stopping dysentery and expelling insects. For dysentery, mastitis and Ascaris.
