[source] is the root bark or stem bark of Wutong, a Verbena plant.
[plant morphology] Wutong
Deciduous tree, up to 15 meters high, with grayish brown bark. The root is cylindrical, and the outer skin is yellowish brown. Branches cylindrical, grayish brown, striated and lenticel, with loose pith. The leaves are hard papery, oval to oblong, oval, 12-20 cm long and 7-12 cm wide, apex acuminate, base round, green above, puberulent along veins, light green below, densely covered with white villi; when young, the margin is coarse toothed, mature leaves are often complete, lateral veins are 6-8 pairs; petiole is 3-6 cm long, densely covered with hairs. Flowers small, white, 2-lipped, terminal cymes, 15 cm wide, with linear bracts. Drupe small, globose. It blooms in summer.
It grows in roadside, ditch and hillside. It is distributed in Yunnan.
