Parasitic shrubs, 1 meter high. Branches cylindrical, gray brown; branchlets tetragonal or polygonal, 2-3 branched, nodes slightly swollen, internodes 1-4 cm long. The leaves degenerate into scales. Flowers minute, sessile, solitary or whorled at nodes; male corolla solid, with 4 lobes; female flowers globose, ca. 1 mm long, base with 1 cup-shaped, apex truncated bracts; corolla lobes 4, abscission; ovary inferior. Berries elliptic, 3-4 mm long, yellow when ripe, smooth. The flowering period is from August to September. The fruit period is autumn and winter.
It is parasitic on elm, mulberry, willow and poplar. It is distributed in southern China and Tibet.
