[plant morphology] mistletoe platyphylla
Evergreen parasitic shrub, 20-40 cm high. Stem base cylindrical, with two edges; branchlets flat, green, each internode was rectangular round, oblanceolate or nearly strip, wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, veins on both sides more than one. The leaves degenerate into scales. Flowers unisexual, monoecious, 3 in each cluster, female in the center, male in the side, 2 in the base, forming discoid bracteoles; male flowers small, perianth 4-lobed; stamens 4, without filaments, anthers multicentric, attached to perianth; female flowers about 1.5 mm long; perianth 4-lobed, lobes triangular; ovary inferior, style short, conical. Berry subovate, ca. 4 mm in diam., yellow when ripe, with persistent bracteoles at base. It blooms in early summer.
It is parasitic on fruit trees, Liquidambar formosana and oak trees. It is distributed in Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong, Hunan, Hubei, Fujian and Taiwan.
