Shrubs, up to 3 m high. Branchlets scabrous pubescent or smooth glabrous. Leaves opposite; broadly elliptic to elliptic ovate or elliptic lanceolate, 5-10 cm long, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, margin denticulate or denticulate, sparsely stellate hairs and glandular dots below; petiole 0.5-1 cm long. Dense cyme, 2-3 cm in diameter; peduncle pubescent, as long as petiole or shorter than petiole; flower water red; calyx short campanulate, truncate; corolla short tubular, 4-lobed; stamen 4, 7 mm long, filament longer than corolla lobes, anther broadly elliptic; pistil 1, ovary 4-locular. Drupe, violaceous, 3-4 mm in diam. The flowering period is from July to September. The fruit period is from September to October.
