[plant morphology] Folium Vitis
Woody vines. The young branches and petioles are brown and villous. The leaves are alternate. The leaves are oval, 4-9 cm long, apex pointed, base broad cordate, lobed, deeply lobed or fully lobed, margin coarsely toothed, with yellowish brown villi below; the fully lobed leaves are palmately compound with 3-5 leaflets; the middle leaflets are rhombic, 9-11 cm long, base cuneate, with short stalks; the leaflets on both sides are obliquely ovate. Panicles opposite leaves, 5-10 cm long, rachis pilose; flowers small, ca. 3 mm in diameter; calyx discoid, glabrous. Berry globose, about 1 cm in diameter, dark brown.
Born on hillside, roadside or riverside, often climbing on edge trees. It is distributed in Sichuan, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and other places.
[collection] except in winter, it can be harvested. The young branches are cut into small segments, and the outflow liquid is collected in porcelain or enamel containers and placed in a dry place.
[flavor] slightly bitter, flat.
Functions and indications: it can eliminate food, clear away heat and cool blood. Treatment of gastrointestinal excess heat, headache and fever, bone steaming, tuberculosis heat, red eyes, epistaxis.
