Trees, up to 25 m high. 1-year-old branches densely pilose. Leaves elliptic ovate or narrowly ovate to ovate lanceolate, 2-8 cm long, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate or suborbicular, margin undulate serrate, obtuse, upper rough, lower densely gray pilose; subsessile or shortly stipitate. The flowers are polygamous, the male flowers are clustered in the leaf axils and bract axils at the lower part of the new branch, the female flowers are solitary or several clustered, the leaf axils at the upper part of the new branch; without petals; the calyx is bell shaped, 4-5-lobed; the stamens and sepals are the same number but opposite; the female flower has only one pistil, the ovary is superior, and the style is divided. The upper part of nut is oblique, 2.5-4 mm in diameter. The flowering period is from March to April. The fruit period is from October to November.

It is distributed in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Anhui, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
