[plant morphology] Sesamum bicolor
Shrubs, ca. 2-3 m tall; twigs stellate pubescent. Leaves alternate, ovate, 10-12 cm long, 7-9 cm wide, apex irregularly divided, base rounded or obliquely cordate, margin serrate, both sides hairy, 5-veined; petiole fluffy; stipules linear, caducous. Cyme axillary, often 2-3 clusters, 2 cm long; bracteoles subulate; flowers red or purple, 3.5-4 cm in diameter; calyx usually 4-5-lobed, lobes triangular, 2 lip shaped; petals unequal, front 2 larger, oblique sickle shaped; stamens 10; sterile stamens 5; ovary slightly papillary, after pollination spiral. Capsule cylindrical, spirally twisted, black at maturity, apex acute, 5 cm long, 7-9 mm wide, initially stellate pilose, then gradually falling off. The flowering period is from April to October.
It grows in the bush of arid wilderness, hillside and hilly forest. Distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
