[plant morphology] huangteng
Zhaoyuan shape shrub, more than 10 meters long. Branches light gray, branchlets with longitudinal stripes. Leaves alternate, ovate or oblong, 10-20 cm long, 4-10 cm wide, apex acute, entire, base round, leathery, green above, pale below; petiole 4-12 cm long, with thin longitudinal ribs, base expanded. Inflorescence compound raceme, axillary, dioecious; perianth 6, green white, with 3 small bracts outside; male flower has stamen 3, filament short rod, anther elliptic, short thick; female flower has staminode, ovary 3-locular, stigma capitate. The ear is about 30 cm long, woody, 3-4 cm long peduncle, 2-3 cm long drupe, and stigma remains at the top. The seed is oblong, kidney shaped in cross section, endosperm horny, rich, cotyledons flaky. The flowering period is from April to May. The fruit period is from October to November.

[medicinal materials] ① the dry roots are cylindrical, twisted, 15-75 cm long and 0.5-2 cm thick. The appearance is earthy brown, brown yellow after removing the embolus, the pores are not obvious, and the skin is easy to peel off. On the cross section, the cork layer is very thin and dark brown; the phloem is developed; the xylem is radially arranged, porous and hard, and the phloem and xylem are bright yellow. It tastes bitter and makes saliva yellow.
② Dry stems cylindrical, slightly curved, up to 3 cm thick. The outer surface is gray, nodule slightly uplifted, with many fine longitudinal grooves and transverse cracks. On the cross section, the cork layer is slightly thicker than the root, about 0.7-1 mm, dark brown; the cortex and phloem are about 2-9 mm thick, yellow, with gaps; the xylem is yellow to brownish yellow, with small pith in the center, with dark radiation line. The smell has the same root. It is better to have a big, yellow color, chrysanthemum pattern and bitter taste.

[clinical application] ① prevention of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis
Take 1 jin of huangteng, add 5 jin of water and boil for half an hour. Take 1-3 tbsp of decoction every time, twice a day. It can also be used for nasal spray. It has a certain preventive effect.
② Treatment of leprosy
The root of Phellodendron amurense was made into 20% Phellodendron amurense. Take 50ml once on the first day and add to 100ml twice on the second day. 10 days is a course of treatment. Generally take 2 courses of treatment, serious 3 courses. In 13 cases, the leprosy reaction disappeared, and only one case recurred after 3 months. Preliminary observation, the effect of erythema nodosum is the most significant, generally about 5 days to subside, peeling; neuralgia can also be reduced or disappeared in 7 days. In addition, it can increase the appetite of patients, improve their sleep, comfort their spirit and reduce the bacterial index. The daily dose of huangteng should be controlled at about 20g of crude drug (the maximum dose should not exceed 30g of crude drug). Generally, there are only side effects such as dry mouth and swelling at the end of extremities. There is no need for drug treatment. As long as you pay attention to supplement water and rest, it can disappear by itself. Toxic reaction may occur if overdose.

Take 0.5 Jin of huangteng, add 5 jin of water, boil for 15 minutes, filter. It can be used to wash the wound and prevent inflammation and purulence.
