Macleaya cordata
Perennial herbs, 1-2 meters high, all with white powder, yellow juice outflow after breaking. Stem cylindrical, hollow, green, sometimes reddish purple. Single leaf alternate, broad ovate, 15-30 cm long, 12-25 cm wide, 5-7 or 9-lobed, lobes with irregular wavy teeth, green above, smooth below, white, with dense hairs; petiole 5-12 cm long, base expanded and clasping. Panicle terminal or axillary, calyx 2, white, oblanceolate, margin membranous, caducous; apetalous: stamens numerous, filaments thin and flat; pistil 1, ovary obovate, flat, style short, stigma 2-lobed. Capsule pendulous, obovate, oblong, ca. 2 cm long, ca. 5 mm wide, flat, red, surface with white powder, style persistent. Seeds 4-6; oblong, brown and glossy. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from August to November.
It is distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Basin.

The three alkaloids in Macleaya cordata have nematicidal effect and also have inhibitory effect on some bacteria and fungi.
② Maggot killing effect
The results showed that Macleaya cordata had maggot killing effect and could inhibit the hatching of fly eggs; the leaf and pericarp had the strongest maggot killing effect, followed by the stem, and the root had the weakest maggot killing effect.

It has been used in more than 300 patients with lobar pneumonia, infantile pneumonia, acute tonsillitis, upper fever, bronchopneumonia, subauritis, acute appendicitis, deep abscess, biliary ascariasis, cholecystitis, trauma, lower leg ulcer, vasculitis, incomplete intestinal obstruction, puerperal fever, various small and medium-sized surgery, and more than 90% of them can prevent or control infection. According to the results of drug sensitivity test, Macleaya cordata is highly sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus albicans, Shigella dysentery, proteus, typhoid, Shigella sonnei, Bacillus anthracis, Shigella flexneri and Streptococcus viridis; moderately sensitive to Shigella baumannii, Escherichia coli and Escherichia coli like; not sensitive to Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
② Treatment of trichomonal vaginitis
