Perennial herbs. The fibrous root is thin, white and tender, transparent, cross striated, hollow and without underground bulb. The leaf blade is sagittate, apex acute, base auricle spreading to both sides, whole margin, green, reticulate vein, main vein back raised. Pedicel from the leaf cluster, erect, about 60 cm high; flowers monoecious, arranged in whorls, 3 in each whorl, female flowers in the lower part, male flowers in the upper part; each flower has 1 green bract; petals 3, white; female flower carpels mostly, free; male flower stamens mostly. The aggregate fruit is spherical and the small fruit is scaly. It blooms in summer.

It is wild in ponds and ditches. It is distributed in Guizhou and other places.
