[plant morphology] Feilian
Herbs Biennial. Stem erect, 70-100 cm high, with longitudinal ribs, with green wings and toothed spines. The lower leaves are elliptic lanceolate, 5-20 cm long, pinnately lobed, with spines on the edge of the lobes, green on the top, with fine hairs or nearly smooth on the top, spider like hairs on the bottom, and then gradually smooth; the upper leaves are gradually smaller. 2-3 head like inflorescences, inserted at the end of branches, 1.5-2.5 cm in diameter; involucre bell shaped, about 2 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, bracts multi-layered, outer layer shorter than inner layer gradually, middle bracts linear lanceolate, apex long pointed into thorny. Inner bracts linear, membranous, slightly purplish. All the flowers are tubular, bisexual, purplish red, tube length 15-16 mm, apex 5-lobed; stamen 5, anther connate; pistil 1, style slender, stigma 2-lobed. Achene oblong, 3 mm long, apex truncate, base contracted; corolla white or gray white, ca. 15 mm long, spiny. The flowering period is June and July.
Born on the side of the wilderness road. It is distributed all over the country.
When used as a medicine, it has white hairs on its young stems. The leaves are lanceolate or oblanceolate, pinnately lobed, with teeth on the margin and needles on the teeth. Inflorescence solitary; involucral bracts several layers, apex spiny; flowers purplish red. Achene elliptic, slightly flat, glossy; corolla white, multilayered, base connate.
