[alias] blue heart ginger, black heart ginger, ginger seven.
[source] rhizome of Curcuma arugeonosa Roxb.
[plant morphology] perennial herb, smooth and glabrous. The leaves are elliptic oblong to oblong lanceolate, 25-60cm long and 10-15cm wide, with purple bands in the middle, and the petiole is longer than the leaf. The inflorescence is about 15cm long; the bracts are numerous, the lower part is green, and the tassel is purple; the calyx is white, and the top is 3-lobed; the Corolla is yellow, and the lobes are 3-unequal; the lateral staminodes are small; the lip is yellow, and the top is slightly deficient; the base of connective has a forked moment. Capsule wolf triangular. The flowering period is from March to May.
Born in the valley, stream and forest, etc. It is mainly produced in Guangxi and Sichuan.
[harvest] after withered stems and leaves in autumn and winter, they should be dug, washed, steamed or boiled to the core, dried in the sun or dried at low temperature to remove fibrous roots and impurities.
[character] the rhizome is conic, the upper end is pointed, the lower end is blunt, 2-6cm long and 2-3cm in diameter. The surface is yellowish, slightly shrunken, with obvious links, scalelike petiole residues on nodes, and round root marks. It has solid texture, yellowish green cross section, round endodermis ring, and most of the stele. It is slightly fragrant, bitter and spicy.
[herbal medicine] the dried rhizome is oval or spindle shaped, solid and heavy, and hard to break. The broken surface is grayish brown to yellowish green, horny and glossy, with a yellowish white ring and white vein dots. Slightly fragrant, slightly bitter and pungent. The one with uniform, solid quality and gray brown section is better.
[chemical constituents] the rhizome contains volatile oil, which includes curzerenone, epicurzerenone, curzenene, curdione, Curcumol, camphor, borneol, etc.

[function indications] it can break blood and promote qi, eliminate accumulation and relieve pain. It is used for abdominal pain caused by blood stasis, hepatosplenomegaly, abdominal distension, accumulation, blood stasis, amenorrhea, traumatic injury, and food stagnation. (1) Xingqi Zhitong, broken blood Xiaoji: used for meridian closure, chest pain, abdominal pain and mass of qi stagnation and blood stasis. It is often used with Sparganium. (2) Xiaoshi Huaji: it is used for stomach and abdomen pain caused by food stagnation. It is often mixed with burnt malt and burnt betel nut.
[usage and dosage] oral: decoction, 1.5-3 yuan; or into pills, powder.
[should avoid] those with deficiency of both qi and blood, weak spleen and stomach and no stagnation should be taken with caution. Pregnant women should not take it.
