Evergreen shrubs or small trees, up to 3 meters high. Branches with white lenticels, branchlets subquadrangular. Leaves alternate, obovate or elliptic, 3-6 cm long and 2-3 cm wide, apex pointed or obtuse, base cuneate, margin with thin obtuse teeth, dark green glossy on the top and pale on the bottom; petiole about 1 cm long. The flowers are green white, 4-numbered, with slender stalks, and each 5-12 flowers forms an axillary dense cyme. Capsule globose, glabrous, reddish, with 4 shallow furrows, peduncle 4 rhombic. Seeds 1-2 per locule, brown, aril orange. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from September to October.
