Small creeping shrubs, sparsely thin and slightly curved prickles. Stems and branches diffuse, purplish brown, setose and pilose, or glabrous, sometimes landing with adventitious roots. 5-4 cm long, terminal leaflet larger, rhomboid ovate, 6 cm long, apex acuminate, base rounded, margin notched serrate, above scattered pilose, below scattered pilose and prickles; petiole and rachis with scattered prickles; stipules lanceolate, attached to petiole. Flowers solitary at the end of short branches or 2-4 flowers integrated into corymbose; petals 5, white, nearly erect; calyx densely covered with prickles, lobes broadly lanceolate, apex caudate, both inside and outside pilose. Aggregate fruit nearly globose, red.
On low slopes, roadsides or shrubs. Distributed in Shaanxi, Gansu, Henan, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan, Taiwan, Tibet and other places.
In addition, there are also the roots of the same genus of plants, also used as daozhalong medicine. The difference from this species is that the leaflets are 7-11, the flowers are solitary, about 4 cm in diameter, and the petals are expanded.
