Perennial herb, stem 30-50 cm high, with red juice, usually unbranched. The basal leaf is about 5 cm long, 20-45 cm long; the leaf blade is large, pinnate, deeply split near the midrib, with 4-7 pairs of lobes, obliquely ovate on the side, with coarse teeth on the edge; the terminal lobe is large, broadly ovate, 7.5-10 cm long, 5-7.5 cm wide, gradually smaller in the lower part; the petiole is 7.5-10 cm long. Cauline leaves 2-3, upper part of stem, nearly opposite or nearly whorled, 20 cm long. Cyme umbelliform, with 4-6 flowers; bracts narrowly ovate, 1-1.5 cm long; pedicels 5-15 cm long; sepals 2; petals 4, yellow, obovate, about 2 cm long; stamens numerous, about 1.2 cm long; ovary short hairy. Capsule slender cylindric, 8 cm long, pubescent.
