[plant morphology] Actinidia glabra
Twining vines, up to 10 meters long. Branches reddish brown, suborbicular, smooth, glabrous, with obvious ovate or linear lenticels, pith white and solid. Leaves alternate; leathery; obovate oblong, elliptic to oblong lanceolate, 4-13 cm long and 2-4 cm wide, apex acute or short acuminate, base cuneate or broadly cuneate, glabrous on both sides, margin sparsely serrate with small pointed red glands, complete without teeth near the base of leaves; petiole smooth, glabrous, 1-2.5 cm long. Flowers solitary or 2-4, forming cymes, on leafless old branches or at the base of young branches, red, smaller, 6-8 mm in diameter, heterozygous; sepals 5, green or yellowish green, ovoid, glabrous outside, sometimes white pubescent inside; petals 5, suborbicular; stamens many; ovary superior, densely white hairy, style filiform, many. Berry long ovate or spherical, brown, 1.5-2 cm long, 0.7 cm wide, mature yellow, glabrous, with white lenticels. The flowering period is from May to July. The fruit period is from August to September.
