Shrubs or small trees, 2-10M high. Bark pale yellow, smooth; young branches slightly flat, light red. Leaves opposite, papery, elliptic to oblong, 5-9 cm long and 2-3.5 cm wide, apex acute, base cuneate, glabrous on both sides, with small black glandular dots below; shortly stipitate. Cyme axillary or slightly axillary supernumerary, with 2-3 flowers; pollen red, about 1 cm in diameter; sepals elliptic; petals obovate: stamens united into 3 bundles, glands 3, fleshy, apex thickened and recurved; ovary superior, conical, 3-locular, 6 ovules per locule, style linear. Capsule elliptic, 8-12 mm long, with persistent calyx. It has wings on one side. The flowering period is from April to May.
It grows on hillsides and shrubs in the wilderness. It is distributed all over the south of China.
