achievement
Zhao Wanli has been engaged in collecting, cataloging and preserving rare books in Beijing Library for more than 50 years. When I first entered Beihai Library (Beijing Library), I got the guidance of Xu Senyu, a famous edition expert and cultural relic connoisseur. I studied hard and studied with Fu Zengxiang, Zhou Shuzhen and other book collectors. My knowledge improved day by day and finally became an expert. Over the past few decades, he has handled and read more than 300000 rare books, often able to identify their authenticity and reveal their origin and evolution. For a long time, he helped Zheng Zhenduo, Xu Senyu, etc. to collect rare and well-known inscriptions and rubbings, which were collected in the Beijing Library. After 1949, he actively visited and collected a large number of famous books and manuscripts, including searching and purchasing Dunhuang manuscripts scattered in China, identifying and purchasing a number of rare books from Hong Kong and Macao collectors, thus enriching the collection of rare books in Beijing Library. Due to his excellent work, he was received by Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai, and was elected as a deputy to the third National People's Congress. He presided over the restoration of Zhaocheng gold collection and the collection of Yongle Dadian, held the special exhibition of rare books such as China printed books, taught applied bibliography for the staff of Beijing Library, and participated in the investigation and identification of some important cultural relic books in China for many times, making many contributions to the development of national culture and the preservation and collation of ancient books. Because he came into contact with a large number of rare editions of the song and Yuan Dynasties and proofread editions by famous scholars in his work, as well as frequent exchanges and research with contemporary book collector Fu Zengxiang, he gained rich experience and knowledge in typology and profound research. He also wrote some papers, such as the collation of the fragmentary volume of Wenxindiaolong in Tang manuscripts, Wang Yuanrong in Dongyang and Dunhuang manuscripts. He also edited the rare books catalogue of Peking Library (1931), rare books catalogue of Beijing Library (1959), Wang Jing'an's posthumous book of Haining, etc. He also participated in the compilation of the ancient drama series, which was published in nine volumes before the cultural revolution. There are collation of Ci of song, Jin and Yuan Dynasties (1931) and collection of epitaphs of Han, Wei and southern and Northern Dynasties (1956). He also compiled Yuan Yi Tong Zhi (1966) and Yi Jin Zhi Ji Yi (1983) from Yongle Dadian. He died in Beijing on June 25, 1980.
