(TheodorAmbroseHubertSchwann,1810~1882)
:
German zoologist and physiologist. He was born in Noyes on December 7, 1810 and died in Cologne on January 11, 1882. He pioneered modern histology and was one of the founders of cell theory. He was educated at the universities of Bonn, vilzburg and Berlin. After receiving his doctorate in 1834, he became an assistant professor of physiologist J.P. Maitreya. 1834-1889 was the most innovative period in his scientific research. He studied the process of digestion and discovered pepsin, a substance related to digestion in the stomach.
Research experience
This is the first enzyme extracted from animal tissue. He designed an experiment to measure the change of contraction length of muscle with the same load and weight under the same stimulation, and compared the contraction intensity with the stimulation intensity. With the help of physical methods, he showed the physiological function, which opened up a new quantitative way for physiological research. Through experiments, he realized that alcohol fermentation is related to the metabolism of yeast, and the decay of organic matter is the result of the metabolism of living organisms (microorganisms). And the word "metabolism" is used first. His great contribution is the microscopic study of the structure and growth consistency of animals and plants published in 1839. Influenced by botanist M.J. Schleiden, he believed that chordate cells (or chondrocytes) were similar to plant cells, and that cells were the basic units of various tissues, so their different shapes were the result of cell differentiation. Therefore, although the basic units are completely different in physiology, they may be developed according to the same law. He and Schleiden laid the foundation of cell theory. But he also accepted Schleiden's erroneous view that cells are formed by crystallization in the matrix. After 1839, he was attacked by the authorities at that time because of his fermenting ideas, which made him in a very difficult situation and in a state of anxiety and depression for a long time. It was only later that L. Pasteur's experiment proved that his view was correct.
achievement
From 1839 to 1848, he was a professor of physiology at Luwan University. He developed the experimental method of bile duct and studied the role of bile in digestion. He believed that bile could not be absent in the digestive tract. In 1848, he was professor of physiology, anatomy and embryology at Liege University. In this booming industrial area, he also developed a series of drainage and emergency equipment for coal mines. Until his retirement in 1879, he still taught physiology. He had more and more obvious religious tendency after middle age. Baidu Encyclopedia content is shared by netizens.
