Performance
He graduated from Tsinghua University in 1962 (six-year system) and stayed in the university to teach. Since then, he has been working in Tsinghua University until his retirement in 2002. He obtained the title of lecturer in 1979, promoted to associate researcher in 1988, researcher in 1991 and professor in 1996. from 1970 to 1978, he participated in research projects related to proliferating nuclear reactors in the Institute of nuclear energy affiliated to Tsinghua University, including: development of high temperature fission chamber; research on spectrum measurement of neutron reactor with H proportional tube block; research on fission product release of SiC coated granular nuclear fuel, etc. From 1980 to 1984, he participated in the research and application of y-ray level meter series products and won the second prize of 1985 National Science and technology progress award. In 1984, he began to be responsible for the research project of on-line measurement of coal ash by dual energy y-ray transmission method. He was responsible for and presided over the research project of "fast and on-line measurement of coal ash by dual energy y-ray transmission method", and obtained the achievement of "key technology of dynamic coal ash measurement". In May 1990, he passed the technical appraisal with the support of Mathematical Science Department of NSFC, and experts agreed that "the technical route is correct, In 1994, the scientific research achievement won the third prize of science and technology progress of the State Education Commission, and was recommended by the science and Technology Department of the Education Commission. After the experts' reply and evaluation, it was approved by the State Science and Technology Commission and listed in the top item of 95 National Science and technology achievements key promotion plan. In 1996, under his leadership, he completed the transformation of scientific research achievements into mature new products; zz89 series of online and rapid measuring equipment for coal ash content, more than 70 sets of which have been applied to large and medium-sized coal processing enterprises all over the country, creating considerable economic benefits for the country and enterprises. At the same time, combined with the development of scientific research, he paid attention to the cultivation of talents, and successively trained 11 graduate students for the country.

In 1986, Zhang Zhikang went to the Department of physics of Houston University as a postdoctoral fellow, engaged in drift chamber research in Mega research program. In 1991 and 1996, he was awarded as the advanced worker of Tsinghua university twice. Although he has retired, he is still employed in the scientific research post he loves.
