Because of his neglect of exercise, Liu Wei in primary school was still a famous little fat man. Of course, because he was too tall, any basketball coach didn't ignore such a good talent, and he didn't know what to play Stage of Liu Wei a contact with basketball, thoroughly like the sport. Sports career
CBA period
In 1994, he entered the Shanghai youth team.
In 1996, he entered the Shanghai first team. But the strength of the adult team is not comparable to that of the youth team. In the first year, Liu Wei didn't get too many playing opportunities.
In 1997-98 season, Liu Wei really ushered in his debut. That season, Liu Wei played 18 games, with an average contribution of 4.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He is an indispensable figure in the team rotation lineup.
In the 1998-99 season, after a season of tempering, Li Qiuping, then head coach of the Shanghai team, saw the untapped potential in Liu Wei. "Xiaozhuge" strictly abides by the principle of no doubt about the use of people and no doubt about the use of people. The next year, he transferred Liu Wei to the main point guard position of the team. Liu Wei, a new comer, has lived up to his teacher's trust and made great progress in this season. He has 11.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals in a single season. But it is so similar to previous seasons that Shanghai team can not go further in the era of Bayi monopoly champion.
In 1999-00 season, from the third season, Liu Wei and Shanghai team began their three-year trip to the finals. They launched a tough challenge to the champion Bayi.

Although Liu Wei showed more and more great general demeanor and gradually became the main point guard of the national team, the record of the Shanghai team was not very satisfactory. It was not until 2007 that the Shanghai team returned to the playoffs, but it was soon announced that it was out, and then it was the last eight for two consecutive years.
In the 2009-10 season, Liu Wei ushered in the second spring of his career. After three seasons, he once again scored 20 points per game, and the Shanghai team reached the top four. This year, Yao Ming's identity has changed from an NBA player to the boss of the Shanghai team. It is Yao's boss's retention that makes Liu Wei, who might have left before the start of the season, choose to stay. However, this has become the last good thing for the Shanghai team. In the next four seasons, they have never been in the top four again. Although Liu Wei was still playing at the age of 33, he averaged 21.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.

NBA trial
In the summer of 2004, Liu Wei was invited to participate in the trial training of the kings and got a non guarantee contract on the eve of the NBA China game. However, the kings chose to give up signing with Liu Wei due to too many point guards in the team.
Liu Wei took part in two games on behalf of the kings team. In the first game, Liu Wei got enough performance time and was able to hit his first goal in the kings team. In the second game, Liu Wei only got 10 minutes of playing time and made three consecutive mistakes in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, exposing his lack of experience and insufficient confrontation, which made king Coach Adelman He had to be replaced in advance.

Nevertheless, the back line of the Chinese team in this Olympic Games has been the most severe criticism from many sides, and 24-year-old Liu Wei is inevitably involved in it.
In the 2006 World Championships in Japan, Wang Zhizhi returned to the national team, and the three centers gathered together, and Liu Wei also got more room to play. Liu Wei can send 8.2 points + 3.8 rebounds + 4.5 assists per game in this world championships, which has become nearly 1
