Brief introduction
Seventy two tenants
Starring: Wen juefei, Tan Yuzhen
Language: Cantonese
Subtitles: Chinese
Introduction: adapted from the stage play of the same name of Shanghai Dagong farce troupe. Before liberation, 72 poor tenants lived in a dilapidated compound in Guangzhou. The house owner Binggen and his wife Bagu are hooligans and bullies, and the tenants are deeply oppressed by them. In order to make a fortune, Binggen and his wife wanted to change the compound into a place for eating, drinking, whoring and gambling, called the police "369" to help them drive out all the tenants. The tenants united in the struggle against forced relocation, which made Binggen and his wife's plan unsuccessful. Binggen and his wife decided to send their beautiful adopted daughter, a Xiang, to the head of the police station as their aunt, so as to drive out the tenants by relying on the power of the head of the police station. Shareholders see "Xiaoyao Palace" with the support of the police branch director, enthusiastically gave the shares to Binggen. However, Ah Xiang resolutely refused to go back to the compound from the wedding banquet of the branch director. The tenants sympathized with her and hid her so that Binggen couldn't find her anywhere. In a hurry, Binggen tried to run away with a share of money. As a result, the director sentenced the Binggen and his wife to the crime of cheating and fleeing with money. They were put in prison and their shares were confiscated. Fortunately, Ah Xiang was safe and sound, and 72 tenants had to settle down in the shabby courtyard because of the abortion of "Xiaoyao Palace" instead of sleeping on the street. The film reveals the collusion and fraud between the ruling class and the underworld forces before liberation, and praises the class fraternity and resourceful and brave fighting spirit of the working people.
