Introduction to Regong Art:
Applicant: Tongren County, Qinghai Province
Regong Art originated in the Tibetan area of Huangnan in Qinghai in the 13th century, and developed with the prosperity of Longwu temple. Regong Art mainly refers to Thangka, murals, embroidery, sculpture and other painting and plastic arts. The main content of Regong Art is the story of Buddha in Tibetan Buddhism, Tibetan historical figures and myths, legends, epics and so on. At the same time, it also includes some secular content. With its unique aesthetic concept, unique raw materials and unique inheritance habits, Regong Art has important historical and artistic value in Tibetan Buddhism, folk art and architectural art.
The traditional Regong Art is mainly created and inherited in Tibetan Buddhist temples, and serves for Tibetan Buddhism. Since the religious reform in 1958, with a large number of Buddhists returning to the common customs, Regong Art began to flow to and spread among the people.
The main creative groups of Regong Art are distributed in Wutun village, Nianduhu village, gashari village, guomari village and other villages in Tongren County of Huangnan Prefecture. Among them, Wutun village is mainly engaged in painting, sculpture and embroidery; Nianduhu village is mainly engaged in embroidery, sculpture, Thangka and mural creation; gasari and guomar villages are mainly engaged in Thangka and mural creation.
The inheritance of Regong Art is mainly based on apprenticeship and father son inheritance. Because Regong Art in history does not pursue signature, many historical masterpieces do not know the author, so the relationship between teachers and children can only be traced back to modern times.
Regong Art, with its exquisite design, gorgeous colors and fine lines, is not only popular in Buddhist areas, but also more and more popular among art lovers in Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and all over the world. In the past decade, Regong Art has a prosperous trend. However, with the death of old artists (four master painters died at the turn of the century), Regong Art is still in the market With the continuous impact of market economy and commodity consciousness, and the continuous prosperity of tourism industry, there are fewer and fewer fine works of Regong Art, but there are more and more counterfeits, reproductions and shoddy products in the market, which are in urgent need of rescue and protection.
