Introduction to Lei Opera:
Applicant: Leizhou City, Guangdong Province
Leizhou opera is a kind of local opera developed on the basis of Leizhou song, a traditional folk song of Leizhou City in Guangdong Province. In the early stage, Leizhou opera was once called "Leizhou opera", but later it was renamed "Leizhou opera". Leizhou opera originated in Leizhou City of Guangdong Province (formerly Haikang county), and its distribution area is Leizhou Peninsula and Leizhou dialect area. Taking Leizhou City of Guangdong Province as the center, it is mainly performed in Leizhou, Suixi, Xuwen, Lianjiang, Dianbai five counties (cities) and Zhanjiang City.
Leizhou opera originated from Leizhou song, a folk ballad mainly composed of self singing and self Lyric. The older aria of Leizhou song is duanji jiaozi, which was written by Chen Changqi, a Jinshi of Haikang in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty. The troupe singing Leizhou songs is called Leige troupe, which is also called "girls' songs" because of the participation of women. There are many songs in the girl's songs, such as "to persuade people to quit smoking", "to persuade people to be loyal" and so on. Lei opera is formed on the basis of girls' songs by imitating the gongs and drums of Cantonese Opera such as "Chong tou", "Di Jin" and other brands such as "Da Kai" and "Xiao Kai". The facial makeup, costumes, props and performance forms are all close to those of Cantonese Opera. From the end of 1950s to the middle of 1960s, an organization was set up in Zhanjiang to reform Leizhou opera and train new people of Leizhou opera, and the name of Leizhou opera was changed to Leizhou opera. Lei opera workers actively reformed Leizhou opera, focused on solving the problem of singing, and made a comprehensive innovation of stage art and music, so that Lei opera has a complete music system and distinctive local characteristics.
Speaking in Leizhou dialect, the performance of Leizhou opera has a strong flavor of life. The singing style has the characteristics of both banqiang style and Qupai style. It is divided into three major systems: Leiou style, Gaotai style and mixed style. There are five types of Banban style, including Sanban style, Adagio style, Zhongban style, Allegro style and Fuguan style. The main accompaniment instruments are Leihu, flute, suona, saxophone, Gong, cymbal, drum, etc.
